Inverness Race Report

Last weekend, crews from our senior and development squads headed north to compete at Inverness Head. The weather was cold but remained dry, with everyone in high spirits for two days of racing.

Saturday morning saw a victory for the women’s squad in the W Novice 4+ race with an exceptional performance, with the other W Nov 4+ earning a very respectable position too. In the Novice 1x race, some of our senior men competed, with it being the first time sculling at a competition for some. Some great learning experiences were had, and more hard-earned performances were achieved. To top off Division 1, the senior men’s 2- raced in the Res1 category coming in 4th place.

Division 2 on Saturday afternoon saw further action with more sculling races. In the W Novice 1x, fantastic racing was shown, with DUBC picking up 5th and 8th place in a very packed field. There were also a couple of singles in the Men’s Res1 category and after some very tight competition, both athletes obtained solid performances. Finishing off the day was the Novice 2x and again, good races were had by all with some head-to-head sprints against other crews.

Sunday had fewer DUBC crews on the water but fuelled from the lovely meal the night before, everyone was raring to go. In the W Res2 2x category, 2 of DUBCs doubles fought it out against 27 other crews, with this being the busiest race of our competition. Both crews did amazingly, achieving 8th and 10th and only 2 seconds between them. In the W Res2 4+, our crew fought extremely well against a very strong field and had a very good race overall.

To finish up the weekend we had two 4+ crews competing in the afternoon. First was the senior men in the Res 2 4+, performing very well despite already having competed many times already over the weekend. With a slight change of crew members from the morning 4+, the women’s squad raced in the Novice 4+ in the afternoon and again did very well and placed 8th.

Overall, a lot of fun was had, and all members worked hard and rowed to the best of their abilities which ensured a very successful weekend. DUBC would like to thank Inverness Rowing Club for their continued hosting of this event and the smooth running of it all. Can’t wait for Inverness at the start of next year!

There will be no more races for us before the end of the year so we would just like to wish everyone the best of luck with upcoming exams, and to have an amazing Christmas and New Year.
