DUBC Movember

Across the month of November, the Boat Club joined sports communities across the country in taking part in the annual Movember campaign. Considering the challenges that 2020 has brought, the men’s squad felt that it was more important than ever to highlight issues affecting men’s health.

Movember provides the opportunity for men globally to come together in growing a moustache during the month, whilst raising awareness for issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. Since 2004, the Movember Foundation has grown and developed more fundraising initiatives such as Move for Movember which is a collaborative distance challenge for teams to take on in order to engage with more members and further promote the cause!

During this challenge the squad wished to emphasise the benefits in promoting an open discussion around mental health issues, since research shows that men in particular are more likely to suffer in silence. Throughout the month, the club shared testimonials from participants across social media on why the fundraiser was important to them, to help normalise opening up and improve the environment for all members.

Thanks to the 17 men who took part through their erging, cycling and running efforts, alongside the 7 brave moustache attempts, the club was able to smash its initial fundraising goal and raised a total of £1030 for the Movember Foundation! And further thanks to all who donated and supported this fundraiser to make it such a success - to find out more about the charities that will be supported by our donation please click here to visit the official Movember Foundation page:
