Congratulations to our Graduates of 2026! Thank you for the incredible impact that all of you have made on the club. We will be forever grateful for the amount of hard work from these athletes, towards committee, training and racing. Everyone has gone above and beyond the past few years to help boost the club for the future with invaluable contributions, time and effort put in. We look forward to watching what everyone achieves in the future- you will all be greatly missed! Best of luck to all of our amazing graduates, and thank you again for everything you have done for our club!
James Morrison
MBChB Medicine
2021-2026
James Morrison joined DUBC in 2021 and has had an enormous impact on the club since. With James’ decade of rowing, he had the experience to both row in and coach many successful boats at Dundee. His commitment to coaching earned him the James Boyle shield but also aided both men’s and women’s boats during his rowing career with us. James spent five years on committee, firstly as general member, two as senior senior captain, one as club captain, and finally general member again. His years spent on committee don’t nearly cover the effort and time James put into this club. James acted as coach throughout his time at Dundee teaching, improving and advising on all things rowing. It would be a disservice to James to not also mention his culinary effort, cooking dinner for the club at Inverness Head, a tradition that will be passed down. We thank him for his years spent with us, wish him luck in the future and hope to still see him out on the Tay.
Ewan Cattermole
Politics and International Relations with French MA (HONS)
2022-2026
Ewan joined DUBC in his first year at university. Since his joining, he has been our treasurer, our equipment manager and finally in his last year the president of the club. He has been a committed member since joining and made a point to turn up to everything he possibly could. Anybody who knows Ewan knows how seriously he takes his responsibilities, the club has been running successfully thanks to his efforts.
Under his presidency we have seen an increase in competitive wins, his own boats performing incredibly well, and forming part of a new reputation for Dundee’s men’s squads. He has been integral in managing the club’s large social events, notably the Alumni Ceilidh. As well as being one of if not THE designated drivers. All of our members are incredibly grateful to have seen Ewan sacrifice many hours to club activities and their organisation.
We know that you will succeed wherever you end up, but the whole of Boat club sends you good luck for the future!
Thomas Gillen
Biological Chemistry and Drug Discovery BSc (HONS)
2022-2026
Thomas joined us in his second year of university, also as a beginner to rowing. Since then, he has become an integral member to DUBC, with his positivity and endless motivation making him a key figure in the competitive development of the club. He has rowed every and all boats in his time at Dundee, but most notably our men's 4+, winning gold at Castle Semple Regatta, and consistently ranking highly against other Scottish clubs. He is also a member and coach for the university weightlifting club, which he has also dedicated his time to throughout his years at Dundee. Thomas is hoping to start a Chemical Biology PhD at Leicester University next year, and we wish him the best of luck with this and his future career!
Emma Murray
Dentistry BDS
2022-2026
Emma joined DUBC in 2022 and from where she learned how to row. Ever since she joined, Emma has made a huge impact on the club not only in her many committee roles as Safety and welfare in 2023/24, President in 2024/25 and Treasurer in 2025/26 but by being and unerringly positive presence to all those around her. From ensuring that all the freshers were able to integrate with the wider club when she was President, to making sure the club had enough money to function when she was Treasurer Emma involved herself in every aspect of DUBC and made sure we could all function. Emma has supported all her fellow club members to ensure the club remains friendly and open to all members new and old, she has become a cornerstone of DUBC who will be sorely missed be everyone as we wish her the very best in her next adventure.
Olivia Brindle
MBChB Medicine
2023-2026
Olivia transferred from St Andrews in 2023 to complete her medicine degree at Dundee University. She had previously learnt to row at George Herriots School, and throughout her time at DUBC predominantly coxed, from beginner’s first races, to coxing the tideway for the WeHORR 8+. She was the General Member for the 24/25 committee, and alongside Emma, was a driving force in making our aim for WeHORR a reality, coxing the first ever Dundee University crew*, and making club history on the Tideway. Despite not being a member in her final year of University, Olivia’s achievements and contributions deserve to be celebrated, and her impact on DUBC will be felt for years to come. We wish her the best of luck in her future career!
Alice Thompson
Environmental Science BSc (HONS)
2023-2026
Alice joined DUBC in September 2023 as a complete beginner to the sport, quickly stepping up and becoming a key member of the club. In her second year, she had a successful year as social secretary, in which we enjoyed a well-attended ceilidh, and weekly Wednesday socials. For her third year at DUBC, Alice was successful in her run for Senior Captain, a role in which she took on crew organisation, coaching and admin roles, working with the Captains team to help the club move towards increasingly higher level competitions, such as BUCS Head. Alice has both competitively rowed and coxed throughout her three years with us, both of which have led to great success for the club, most notably for coxing the men's 4+ in the past year, and rowing bow seat of the WeHORR 8+ as the first ever Dundee crew. Alice is moving back to the US to finish her degree at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. We wish her the best of luck for the future, and she will be massively missed by DUBC.
Bryanna Upton
Biochemistry BSc
2026
Having only joined DUBC for a semester from Bryanna has left behind many happy memories. Having previously rowed in Boston, Bryanna fitted seamlessly into the various crews and races she was given. With a huge level of commitment to training and socials she became heavily involved in the club with great spirit. Training and competing at BUCS head in the women's coxless quad as a strong part of the crew. She never missed a beat to get stuck in, erging with some unforgettable face paint at the ergathon fundraiser. Her final race with us in the mixed 8 at Castle Semple Regatta. She is now continuing her studies in Boston.
